Very Quick Start(tm)

TWO OPTIONS

1-DAY Introduction to Microelectronics

- OR -

2-DAY Introduction to Microelectronics, Optoelectronics

and Microsystems

The Microelectronics Revolution is still going strong after a half century.  It has been joined by revolutions in Optoelectronics and in MEMS/Microsystems.  People and organizations that work in, or are dependent on, high technology need to have a basic understand of these micro technologies.

This  short course provides our simplest, shortest introduction to these micro technologies.  Students have two options.  Those only interested in Microelectronic can only attend the first day.  Those interested in all three technologies attend the full two days.  Even if you are currently interested in microelectronics we recommend that you can consider the full two day courses because it is likely you will be involved with all three technologies in the future.

The first day starts with a consideration of the special properties of semiconductors and the basic building block of microelectronics and optoelectronics the pn junction.  The course then considers the MOS capacitor and MOS transistor.  The CMOS IC is introduced and scaling to make faster, better, cheaper ICs is discussed.  Day 1 concludes with an overview of IC ecomonics and the IC industry.

The second day starts with optoelectronics.  The operation of the junction photodiode is explained and its use as solar cell is explained.  The course continues with light emitters: LED, Laser Diode and VCSEL.  The course concludes by consider Bulk MEMS, Surface MEMS and Microsystems.

A special feature of this class is a presentation/tour by the ASI staff on their real-world experience with analyzing and testing micro devices.

This is an introductory course which only requires knowledge of high school physics.  This course is designed for engineers, technicians, scientists, managers, program sponsors and anyone else who are interested in better understanding these important microtechnologies.

The tuition is $795 for the 1-day Microelectronics only option and $1295 for the full two-day course.
